On the 12th, within the maelstrom of runaways that are taking place these days, we were shocked by the news that Carolina Herrera left the creative direction of her namesake brand with this last big show. She has decided to give way to Wes Gordon, a young designer of her confidence, to occupy a role as ambassador within the firm.
At 79 years of age she says goodbye, or rather “see you later”, after more than three decades leading one of the most influential firms in the world. The great lady of Latin fashion founded Carolina Herrera in 1980 and since then she wanted to change the party dress code of the woman always linked to the New York high society.
The catwalk began and ended with a tribute to the house’s badge; the white shirt combined with black pants or skirt. Made of taffeta of course. A song of elegance, sophistication and simplicity that has always defined Herrera. There were animal and floral prints, feathers and fringes that made feminine, sensual and very smart silhouettes as the Venezuelan designer has accustomed us.
Just hope that Gordon knows how to lead the brand without losing the essence of Carolina and that those voices that claim that her departure has been somewhat “forced” aren’t right.
